IHSAA looking for classics to drive in 100th anniversary parade

Posted by James Brosher at 11:15 am on Monday, March 8, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

The Indiana High School Athletics Association (IHSAA) is seeking old cars to drive in a 100th anniversary parade on Saturday, March 27, in downtown Indianapolis. The parade will take place between sessions at the boy’s basketball finals held at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The parade will start Pennsylvania Street, travel around monument circle and end at Conseco Fieldhouse. The IHSAA’s goal is to have a vehicle/float to represent every state championship team.

To reserve a spot in the parade, call the IHSAA at (317) 863-2575 or email info@100n100.net.

Here’s the full press release:

On “Championship Saturday,” a special 100th Anniversary Celebration Parade will make its way through downtown Indianapolis to honor a century of Hoosier high school basketball teams. The goal is to have a parade unit or float representing each year’s state championship team and to have former players and coaches from these teams participate.

The Parade, scheduled to occur between Championship sessions, will start on Pennsylvania, travel around Monument Circle and end at Conseco Fieldhouse. Each team will be recognized at various points along the parade route and will have the chance to walk the red carpet – like they do at the Academy Awards – as they enter Conseco Fieldhouse for the IHSAA Legends Reception. This promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and thrilling conclusion to our centennial celebration, as well as a unique opportunity for a reunion of former players and coaches. For those watching, this will be their chance to see some of the great legends and star players of the past.

Complete parade details will be sent to you once your reservation is received. Additional information can be obtained online at www.100YearsIn100Days.net.

He was a 1957 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He went on to retire as a mechanic at Sears in Muncie. He was a former fire chief of the Redkey Volunteer Fire Department, town board member in Redkey, and a past member of Halfway Lodge F.&A.M. in Redkey.

He was the husband of Frances J. Wright.

Annual Show moved back a week

Posted by James Brosher at 12:13 am on Saturday, February 6, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

For the first time in its existence, the Crown City Cruisers’ annual park car show will be on the second Saturday of June instead of the first. The Cruisers made the move official at a club meeting on Jan. 28.

The 19th Annual Show will be on Saturday, June 12, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show’s registration is $10. The first 50 pre-registered cars will receive a show t-shirt.

The move comes after Dunkirk Glass Days announced its annual festival would occupy areas of the park often used by the show on the same weekend. In order to avoid a calendar conflict that would force both groups to move, the Cruisers decided to push the show back a weekend.

Along with the Annual Show, the “Nite Before” cruise-in at the Albany McDonald’s will be moved back to Friday, June 11. That event will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a $5 entry fee. There will be 27 total trophies and dash plaques for the first 75 registered cars.

The 2010 King and Queen Cruiser, Jari and Chuck Glenn, left, and the 2009 King and Queen Cruiser Rodger and Karen Hughes.

At our Christmas carry-in and party in December, a new King and Queen Cruiser was crowned for the 2010 car show season. Chuck and Jani Glenn are the new royalty.

Chuck had over 100 dash plaques from the 2009 car show circuit. We are certain that the Glenns will represent the Crown City Cruisers well this year. The Glenns take over from the 2009 King and Queen Rodger and Karen Hughes.

Thanks for a great year Hughes!
